2011 Grand Prairie Junior Golf League Guidelines
The goal of the Junior Golf League is to provide recreational golf opportunities with a somewhat competitive spirit and a fairly organized framework. Any rulings or decisions will be made in the best interest of “what’s fair for everyone.”
SCHEDULE
League will consist of 9 weeks beginning June 20 / 22 and ending August 15 / 17 with no league play the week of July 4.
USGA RULES
USGA Rules govern play at all times. Each player is expected to know and adhere to the Rules of Golf. The following local rules will apply:
• A ball hit over a boundary fence may be put back in play at the point it crossed the boundary fence under penalty of one stroke.
• A ball lost may be put back in play in the area it is believed to be lost under penalty of one stroke.
• All safety fences and the pump cage on hole #2 are free relief, no closer to the hole.
TEE TIMES
(Refer to the JGA and/or Grand Prairie web site for information about tee times for the first week of play.) Players may sign up for tee times up to two weeks in advance. The next available tee sheet will available at the counter on the day of the league. Players must be present to sign up. Players not present may call the day after league to sign up for a tee time. Due to the size of the league, Grand Prairie reserves the right to adjust tee times or to accommodate special requests. The final week will be shotgun start with luncheon.
RAIN OUTS
Players are expected to play under all weather conditions except lightning. Grand Prairie will determine if the course is too wet to have league ½ hour before the first tee time. The start of league may be delayed up to 1 hour before canceling.
CANCELLATIONS
Players must call Grand Prairie to cancel a scheduled tee time. Players who do not call may forfeit their chance to do a make-up game and/or their ability to schedule their next tee time.
MAKE-UP GAMES
Players who miss a league day will be allowed to play a make-up game between 1-week prior to or 1-week after the scheduled league date.
PACE OF PLAY
Players must keep pace with the group in front of them. 9 holes should be completed in 2 hours or less.
PARENTS
Parents are encouraged to walk with a group. Parents may help locate lost balls and help count proper number of strokes, but should refrain from caddying or instructing during play, except in JL1 where parents are encouraged to help their children learn the game, rules, and etiquette.
STROKE LIMIT
There will be a 10 stroke limit on each hole. If a player is obviously going to make a 10, he or she should pick up during the play of the hole and drop on the edge of the green, chip on and putt out. A pick-up 10 should be circled on the scorecard.
SCORECARDS
Each player will have a scorecard with his or her name on it. Players must exchange scorecards so that they are keeping someone else’s score. At the end of the round, both players must sign the scorecard they kept (scorer) as well as their own scorecard (attest) before turning them in to the pro shop. All numbers must be written legibly. Players are expected to add their scores up properly. Players in JL2 and JL3 are expected to be able to calculate their net score and Stableford points properly.
BEHAVIOR / DRESS CODE
Participants are expected to conduct themselves in a proper manner at all times. Obscene language, throwing clubs, damaging the course or any other conduct or behavior deemed to be improper may result in penalties, disqualification or suspension from the golf course. Shirts must be worn at all times. Hats must be worn with bill forward.
AWARDS / LUNCHEON
Participants must play in 5 of the 9 weeks to be eligible for awards. Awards will be given out at the luncheon following league play on August 15th and August 17th. Tee times for the luncheon day will be a shotgun format with all players starting at the same time on different holes. JL1 will start at 9:30, JL2 at 12:00, and JL3 will start at 11:00. (Refer to the web site for updated information)
12 & UNDER AGE DIVISION (JL1)
JL1 will play for weekly events and prizes. Many events will be in the form of “Most 5’s” or “Most 6’s” or “Most pars” and will not be known until completion of play. Events such as least putts will be known before play begins and participants will be required to keep track of putts on their scorecard. We will inform players when there is an event that requires something extra during their round.
All players in JL1 will play from the red tees.
12 – 17 AGE DIVISION (JL2, JL3)
Points will be awarded individually based on a Stableford scoring system:
Net Eagle: 4 Points
Net Birdie: 3 Points
Net Par: 2 Points
Net Bogey: 1 Point
JL2 will have all participants randomly paired into teams after the second week of league while JL3 will be an individual format. Both leagues will play for prizes to be awarded at the end of the season. Grand Prairie will maintain handicaps for all players and post points and standings on the wall at Grand Prairie and on the JGA and/or Grand Prairie web site. For JL2, the number of players per team will be determined by the total number of participants. If, for example, there are 6 players on a team, the 4 best point totals will count towards the weekly team score.
Boys will play from the white tees and girls will play from the red tees.
