In an awards ceremony at the 2011 PGA Merchandise Show in Orlando, Florida, Dean Marks was named a “Master Kids Teacher” by U.S. Kids Golf. He was named a “Top 50 Kids Teacher” in 2008, 2009, and 2010, earning him the distinction of being named one of only 52 “Master Kids Teachers” in the country. The list of teachers was compiled from nominations from golf professionals and other in the golf industry. The teachers are judged according to 16 criteria, including percentage of time devoted to kids programs, creativity, communication and efforts to grow the game. Dean was named the 2012 “Junior Golf Leader” by the Michigan Section PGA, an award he also received in 2007. He is one of only a few Michigan PGA Professionals to achieve Specialty Certification in Instruction. He recently became a Level 1 TPI Certified Golf Fitness Instructor and a Level 2 TPI Certified Junior Golf Coach. Dean has been the Head Women’s Golf Coach for Kalamazoo College since 2003 and involved with the JGA since 1999. He was recently named Director of Golf for the Kalamazoo Municipal Golf Association and oversees operations at Milham Park, Eastern Hills, and Red Arrow golf courses.
